MQL Urine Test Kits
Methaqualone urine Test kit is a rapid visual immunoassay based on immuno competitive binding principle, for the qualitative and presumptive detection of drug methaqualone in human urine specimens at the cut-off of 100 ng/mL.
MQL Urine Screening Kit
MQL Rapid Test Device (Urine) detects Methaqualone through visual interpretation of color development on the strip. During testing, the specimen reacts with antibodies conjugated to colored particles which is precoated on the sample pad. The mixture then migrates through the membrane by capillary action.
If there are insufficient methaqualone molecules in the specimen, the antibody-colored particle conjugate will bind to the drug conjugates, forming a colored band at the test region on the rapid MQL urine test strip. Therefore, a colored testing line indicates negative result for the drug Methaqualone.
If drug molecules in the urine is above the cut-off concentration of the Methaqualone urine screening kit, they compete with the immobilized drug conjugate on the test region for limited antibody binding sites. This will prevent the attachment of the antibody-colored particle conjugate to the test region. Therefore, the absence of a colored band at the test region indicates a positive MQL testing result.
The appearance of a colored band at the control region serves as a procedural control in the Methaqualone rapid test kit, indicating that the proper volume of specimen has been added and membrane wicking has occurred.
MQL Testing Reagents
Each Methaqualone test cassette consists of a reagent strip mounted in a plastic housing. Drug Methaqualone conjugates are immobilized on the test region of the membrane. The amount of each antigen and/or antibody coated on the strip is less than 0.001 mg for antigen conjugates and goat anti-rabbit IgG antibodies, and less than 0.0015 mg for antibody components.
The control zone of each test contains goat anti-rabbit IgG antibody. The test zone of each MQL test device contains drug-bovine protein antigen conjugate, and the conjugate pad of each test contains monoclonal anti-drug antibody and rabbit antibody-colored particle complex.
Drug Methaqualone
Methaqualone (MQL) was originally synthesized in India to combat malaria but found to be ineffective. Then MQL was found effective as a sedative, and was developed in the hopes of avoiding some of the adverse effects of the barbiturates. Unfortunately, methaqualone was found to be just as addictive.
Psychologically, methaqualone is cumulative, and tolerance occurs rapidly in some individuals. At least 12 hydroxylated metabolites having been identified in the urine. About 0.2% of methaqualone is excreted unchanged within 24 hours; 40-50% of the methaqualone is excreted as metabolites within 72 hours, mostly as the glucuronide conjugates. The half-life for methaqualone averages 33 to 36 hours. It can be detected up to four days after administration, with methaqualone test kits.
