RSV Dot Assay Kits
Respiratory syncytial virus IgG and IgM Dot assay kits are used as an aid in the diagnosis of RSV infection.
RSV Dot Assay kits, including RSV IgM Dot Assay and RSV IgG Dot Assay, are a series of rapid test kits based on Gold Immuno-filtration Assay (GIFA) principle, which are used to detect the IgM and IgG antibodies specific to Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in human serum specimen, and are intended to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of RSV infection.
Clinical Value of RSV IgM testing
RSV IgG testing results in neonates must be interpreted with caution, because maternal IgG antibody can be transferred passively from the mother to the fetus before delivery, and it will present in the infants' blood for some time. On the other hand, RSV IgM assay results are generally a more useful indicator of RSV infection in children, especially when below 6 months of age. RSV immunity wanes over time, so people can be infected multiple times during life time; no vaccine at present against RSV.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a negative-sense, single-stranded RNA virus, and belongs to the family of Paramyxoviridae. RSV is the major agent of infection in the respiratory tract of children under two years, causing bronchiolitis, pneumonia, trachea-bronchitis and otitis. And it is regarded the first common cause of lower respiratory tract infection to children. And to the immunocompromised patients and premature infants, the RSV infection may cause death. Treatment is limited to supportive care, including oxygen. In temperate climates, RSV is epidemic during the winter. In tropical regions, infection is most common during the rainy season.
