Procalcitonin Rapid Test Kits
NOVA Test ® Procalcitonin Rapid Test Kit is a colloidal gold immunochromatographic membrane assay that uses the double-antibody sandwich method to semi-quantitative detection of procalcitonin (PCT) from human serum/plasma specimens.

Intended Use
NOVA Test ® Procalcitonin Rapid Test Kit is intended to be used in the diagnosis and treatment of bacterial infection and sepsis. Also, provide aids for decreased antimicrobial usage. Performance of the test is limited to professional use. For in vitro diagnostic use only. The test result should be interpreted by the physician along with clinical findings and other laboratory test results.
Procalcitonin (PCT) has been evaluated as a biomarker to assist the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of bacterial infection, and has been studied most thoroughly for lower respiratory tract infections and sepsis and its use is associated with decreased antimicrobial usage without worsening of clinical outcomes. PCT rapid test can assist clinicians in antibiotic management including pneumonia, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, and other assorted lower respiratory tract infections.
Merits of PCT Rapid Test
Procalcitonin is a 116 amino acid precursor of calcitonin which under normal circumstances is produced by the thyroid cells. Serum concentrations of PCT are normally less than 0.05 ng/mL, but in circumstances of systemic inflammation, particularly bacterial infection, PCT is produced in large quantities by body tissues, and the concentration level will increase significantly. The PCT levels parallel the severity of the inflammatory insult or infection meaning those with more severe disease have higher levels.
This PCT rapid serum test kit is a good option for the detection of inflammable biomarker, because it detects Procalcitonin in human serum/plasma specimens, which has some advantages over other biomarkers commonly used in clinical diagnosis use such as C-reactive protein (CRP) and white blood cell count. These advantages of PCT include specificity for bacterial infection, excellent correlation with severity of illness, the rapid decline with immune control on infection, and the lack of impact of anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive states on production.
Storage and stability
The PCT serum test kit should be stored at 2~30 °C in sealed pouch, away from sunlight and moisture. The validity period is at 24 months. The PCT serum test cassette must be brought to room room temperature (15~30 °C) before use.
After breaking of the foil pouch, the procalcitonin testing should be taken out within 1 hour. It is recommended to use the test kit immediately after opening, especially if the test environment humidity is more than 60%.
PCT Test Results
This PCT rapid test kit is a semi-quantitative detection kit for procalcitonin. When two red ribbons, the test line (T line) and the quality control line (C line) are coloured, it is a positive result. The PCT concentration range is then determined by comparing colour intensity of test line (T line) with colour blocks of Reference Colour Card. Please use the card provided by kit for comparison purpose.
- PCT concentration is less than 0.5ng/ml: no T line or the intensity of the T line is weaker than that of colour block “0.5”.
- PCT concentration is between 0.5ng/ml – 2ng/ml: The intensity of the T line is stronger than that of colour block “0.5” but weaker than that of colour block “2”.
- PCT concentration is between 2ng/ml – 10ng/ml: The intensity of the T line is stronger than that of colour block “2” but weaker than that of colour block “10”.
- PCT concentration is more than 10ng/ml: The intensity of the T band is stronger than that of colour block “10”.
